Meet Kristal

Hey, I’m Kristal! A proud first-generation Filipina-American of Maranao, Sugbuhanon, Subanon, Ilokano, and German-French decent and the heart behind Barkada Coffee.

Every cup I craft is a love letter to the Philippines — rich with warmth, passion, and a deep connection to my heritage. I take my coffee cart seriously, but not myself. This isn’t your typical pretentious Portland barista scene; I show up as my authentic self, and I invite you to do the same. Crack jokes, overshare, laugh with me, or just take a moment to breathe. I’m here to create a space where coffee, culture, and community come together, one sip at a time.

I’m on a mission to slow things down, to savor the moment, and to support Filipino farmers and local businesses with every carefully crafted blend. And don’t be surprised if my hair is a different color next time you see me, I like to change things up!

Let’s share a cup and a good time.

Leading with values first

  • Honoring Culture

Filipino coffee beans are a hidden gem in the industry, and I’m here to change that. Every cup is more than just coffee—it’s a piece of history, a connection to culture, and an experience you get to be part of.

  • Staying Curious

Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it fuels me! I’m a lifelong learner, both student and master, always hungry for discovery. The best part of my day? Knowing there’s always something new to learn.

  • Deeper Connection

More than just a transaction — this is about connection. Your story matters, and I want to know who you are and how you came to be. So let’s dive deep, talk about life, and share the moments that make us who we are.
